The new stripe world

The stripes of Kokura-ori brand “SHIMA-SHIMA” is woven by three warps and one weft. This means that the weft cannot be seen resulting in beautiful vertical stripes. The fabric’s colors are inspired by the grass and wood of Kokura area, creating beautiful patterns with a 3 dimensional gradation. The stripes designed by textile artist Ms. Noriko Tsuiki who revived Kokura-ori is opening the way of a new stripe world beyond the field of the fabric

Kokura Ori
Kokura-ori is a speciality of Buzen Kokura Han during the Edo period – currently known as Kita-Kyusyu of Fukuoka. The fabric is of good quality and sturdy cotton with a unique feature of vertical stripes.
