Kokura Creation Inc.

有限会社 小倉クリエーション

Ms. Hideko Watanabe founded Nuno Annex in Kokura town of Kitakyushu in 1986. She started a business as a distributor of “NUNO”, a textile manufacturer in Tokyo. Later, they established Kokura Creation in 1996 and launched an original Kokura-ori brand “SHIMA-SHIMA” in 2007. Kokura-ori has a feature of a three-dimensional gradation of vertical stripes. However, it was difficult to produce a wide fabric through hand weaving. Ms. Hideko Watanabe tried to produce wide fabric by using a machine loom and succeeded in developing it. This is the “SHIMA-SHIMA” brand. The people in Kokura had keen interests in the fabric. Subsequently, SHIMA-SHIMA introduced their fabric to Europe and it was well received in a relatively short span. In order to maintain the brand image, SHIMA-SHIMA is particular about how the fabric is being used. Thus, they had planned and produced on their own ranges of products such as a froshiki, apron and so on. They are currently expanding their shops as well as exhibiting around Japan.
