Japan House London, a cultural venue promoting the diverse charms of Japan, is holding the exhibition “Hyakkō: 100+ Makers from Japan” from December 3, 2025, to May 10, 2026. A version of this exhibition was originally presented in 2023 at ATELIER MUJI GINZA in Tokyo as a part of the project “Life in Art” by Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd. (MUJI), and it has been specially reconstructed for Japan House. Through everyday craft items that embody the climate and culture of various regions in Japan, and the lives of the people who live there, the exhibition explores the essence of Japanese craftsmanship, in which history and knowledge are deeply imbued.
The exhibition features more than 2,000 works by over 120 craftspeople that combine both beauty and function, using a variety of materials such as ceramics, glass, wood, leather, and metal. It also includes video material showcasing craft making processes. Visitors can experience the passion and inspiration that craftspeople put into their works. Additionally, talks, demonstrations, workshops, gallery tours, and other events are planned throughout the exhibition period to provide deeper insight into the crafts. At the Japan House London Shop, located on the ground floor of the building, works by more than 30 exhibiting artists are available for purchase.
As a traveling exhibition of Japan House, the exhibition will be held at Japan House Los Angeles and Japan House São Paulo from 2026 to 2027, after the London exhibition. This will be a valuable opportunity for people around the world to gain a comprehensive understanding of the evolution and diversity of Japanese craft culture, as well as Japanese craftsmanship that transcends tradition and time, continuing to the present day.
