The former Bizen Pottery Museum, beloved for many years, has reopened as the Bizen City Museum of Art in July 2025. The museum aspires to share the beauty and appeal of modern ceramics, including Bizen ware, both in Japan and around the world. It also serves as a regional hub for cultural creation, showcasing a wide range of artistic fields such as international contemporary art, architecture and design. The museum’s architecture features a calm monotone palette that accentuates the beauty of the artworks on display. Natural stone from the Setouchi region has been used for stairs and flooring. At the entrance hall, visitors are greeted by “Memories of Earth and Fire” a Bizen ware monument by Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki. In addition to year-round special exhibitions, the museum features a history gallery exploring the rich legacy of Bizen ware, a tearoom, and a rooftop garden, making it an open cultural space that welcomes everyone.
