A glass artist based in Tanba-Sasayama, Hyogo Prefecture. After studying product design and glass crafts, Yuko Sekino worked as an assistant to Takeshi Tsujino before going abroad to gain further experience. Yuko is currently engaged in the creation of glassware that blends seamlessly into everyday life at “SORTE GLASS,” a glassblowing studio she co-founded with her partner Ryo Sekino, in which she pursues her own unique expressions of glass inspired by bubbles.
The shimmer of beautiful glass, which seems to reflect ephemeral bubbles drifting on the surface of water. In Yuko’s works, intentional forms coexist with the randomness of bubble patterns, showcasing a characteristically Japanese meticulousness in many places. Her work is the antithesis of the beauty of pure glass, yet at the same time reveals the infinite possibilities of beauty that glass embodies.
