Open Factory Event “KITE MITE MII TOKUSHIMA 2025” to Be Held in Tokushima Prefecture

The open factory event, “KITE MITE MII TOKUSHIMA” which started in 2023, will be held again this year from November 11 to 15, 2025.

At this event, nine woodworking manufacturers born and nurtured in Tokushima will open their factories to the public, hosting exhibitions and workshops. In the factory, visitors will have the opportunity to observe the skilled techniques of experienced artisans, including the application of tsuki-ita, hand-carved sculptures, delicate kumiko and molded plywood productions. This will be a valuable opportunity to experience the advanced techniques cultivated over many years, as well as the diverse range of materials collected over time. Additionally, workshops tailored to each company’s specialty were organized, such as creating original trays using tsuki-ita (MORI KOUGEI) and reupholstering dining chairs (ISUTOKU). These workshops are designed to make craftsmanship feel more accessible to the public. Factory bus tours will also be available on Saturday, the 15th, by advanced reservation, making it convenient for visitors without personal transportation to participate.

Moreover, products from nine woodworking manufacturers and five creators from Tokushima will be exhibited at an event space in the city this year. The displays are coordinated to highlight the unique feature of each work, allowing the public to enjoy a special display where the pieces complement one another in beauty. In addition, a talk event featuring creators and executives from the participating manufacturers will be held to share their passion for craftsmanship.

The phrase “KITE MITE MII” in this event’s title is from the Awa dialect, meaning “You should come and see it at least once” or “Come and try it out for yourself.” The title expresses the hope that visitors will observe Tokushima’s manufacturing sites and feel the passion of its craftsmen. We highly recommend visiting the region and experiencing Tokushima’s woodworking industry, which continues to thrive through the dedication and enthusiasm of its skilled artisans.
