HULS GALLERY Launches Its Official Brand Book “Kogei’s Place in Our Lives”

HULS Inc., which operates KOGEI STANDARD, releases HULS GALLERY first brand book “Kogei’s Place in Our Lives,” on October 27, 2025. HULS GALLERY is a contemporary crafts gallery dedicated to presenting Japanese craftsmanship to the world. The publication will be available at the company’s three locations in Tokyo, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

This book features photographs of craft-producing regions and selected craftworks, along with a column written by Yusuke Shibata, the company’s CEO and curator of the gallery. It offers readers an intimate glimpse into the aesthetic sensibilities that lie at the heart of Japanese craftsmanship. Through its pages, Kogei’s Place in Our Lives explores how kogei, reflecting the spirit of each region and its people, finds its place and meaning in contemporary society. The book presents HULS’s unique perspective as an official brand publication.

Presented in both Japanese and English, the book is composed of two main sections: Craft Columns, which introduce the appeal of Japanese crafts, and Japanese Aesthetic Columns, which explore the traditional aesthetic sensibilities that underlie these works.

Craft Columns
In the Craft Columns, the book features writings that explore the appeal of various aspects of Japanese craftsmanship such as “The Beauty of Sometsuke” and “The Charm of Sake Ware,” accompanied by photographs of 18 carefully selected pieces that exemplify these themes and reflect the spirit of HULS GALLERY.

Japanese Aesthetic Columns
The Japanese Aesthetic Columns feature four selected columns from KOGEI STANDARD, HULS’s online media dedicated to Japanese crafts. These columns explore key concepts such as wabi-sabi and mono no aware, words that have become widely recognized around the world and are essential to expressing the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship. Each column offers a contemporary interpretation of these traditional aesthetic ideas, inviting readers to reflect on their timeless relevance.
