GOOD DESIGN Marunouchi

Good Design Award 2025 “sen-kuu”
Designer Hisae Igarashi, Craftsman Shunichi Omura
“Hounobi” is a product brand that embodies values of enriching the mind and brightening our life, that dwells in the products of “the beauty of everyday things,” through crafts rooted in Shizuoka. This time, through collaboration between craftspeople, designers, and Sozosya, which supports the local craft culture, five new products have been announced that use the techniques of “Suruga bamboo basketry,” a traditional craft that has been passed down since the Edo period.
The portable table lamp “sen-kuu” won the Good Design Award 2025. Its sophisticated details that harmonize with modern lifestyle, utilizing the LED lighting technology to beautifully showcase the shadows of Suruga bamboo basketry while making the light source discreet, were highly praised. The light emitted through the elegant form of interconnected bamboo strips creates a sense of tranquil warmth. The “Linea,” a flower vase and aroma diffuser decorate the space with high-skilled techniques that involve a bamboo inward which enhance the beauty of curving line of bamboo. The “Irregular” flower vase, designed like a vertically sliced ring of bamboo casts a beautiful shadow on the wall when placed nearby. The “SEN to EN” is an object that highlight the beauty of the connected bamboo lines. It can be opened and closed, allowing user to enjoy the subtle movement of the bamboo forms. The “Kara,” a container with delicate bamboo strips aligned vertically, combined with a glass surface. The glass surface helps maintain a perfect circle shape, while the lid fits smoothly, making the container easy to stack.
The products are scheduled to be released sequentially from November 2025. To commemorate the product launch and the Good Design Award received by “sen-kuu,” the “Hounobi” exhibition, will feature the entire collection from November 7 to December 7, 2025, at a museum inside the “Takumishuku,” a traditional craft experience facility in Mariko, Shizuoka City. All of the products, crafted from assembled thin and rounded bamboo strips, a distinctive feature of Suruga bamboo basketry, are pliant and light. We invite you to visit the exhibition and experience the delicate beauty of these works in person.
