Based in Uji, Asahiyaki will make it first appearance at 3daysofdesign, taking place in Copenhagen from June 10 to 12, 2026. The historic Kyoto kiln will also debut “osaa,” a new tableware collection developed in collaboration with Helsinki-based design studio Kaksikko.
The “osaa” collection was born from the cultural affinity between Japan and the Nordic countries, grounded in a shared respect for nature and materials. Building on this common sensibility, the project was developed through close dialogue with chefs and restaurateurs from three establishments known for their thoughtful, ingredient-driven cuisine: So Kawahigashi (Japan), Grön (Finland), and Admiralgade 26 (Denmark). The result is a collection comprising eight distinct tableware designs.
During 3daysofdesign, Asahiyaki will present a special exhibition at Admiralgade 26, one of the project’s participating restaurants. The exhibition reflects the kiln’s long history and deep connection to the tea culture of Uji, where Asahiyaki has cultivated its tradition for generations. In addition to viewing the collection, visitors will have the opportunity to experience the “osaa” tableware in use, as meals will be served on pieces from the new collection throughout the event. One of the program’s highlights will be held on June 12, when chef Atsushi Nakahigashi of So Kawahigashi, Kyoto, hosts a special collaborative dinner inspired by the principles of kaiseki cuisine. Advance reservation is required for the dinner.
Designed by Kaksikko and brought to life through Asahiyaki’s expertise in working with clay from Uji and its distinctive glazing techniques, the “osaa” collection represents a fusion of Nordic sensibilities and Japanese traditions. Presented at 3daysofdesign, one of leading gatherings of the Nordic design community, the project seeks to foster a new dialogue between food and tableware.
