ZOZO NEXT will present products and prototypes from its “Yobiiro” project overseas for the first time at the design festival “3daysofdesign” which take places in Copenhagen, Denmark, from June 10 to 12, 2026.
“Yobiiro” is a project that combines Japanese craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology, bringing the results to society through thoughtfully designed products, its goal is to awaken the senses, evoke emotions, and stimulate the latent sensibilities within people. Guided by the question, “If Japanese craftsmanship were to be transformed by contemporary technologies, what kind of lifestyles could be made possible?” the project develops products that embody advanced technologies cultivated through ZOZO NEXT’s research and past collaborations, realized in partnership with designers and traditional craftspeople.
The exhibition will feature a range of products that demonstrate the fusion of traditional Japanese craftmanship and advanced technology. Highlights include “hitotose (Flower vase),” a vase that combines porcelain with smart materials that change color in response to temperature fluctuations; “URUSHICA,” Echizen lacquerware that enhances practicality for contemporary lifestyles by enabling lacquer to adhere directly to heat-resistant resin — a process previously considered difficult; “Stellar Edge,” a lighting fixture that merges phosphorescent materials with the 300-year-old tradition of Nao washi paper; and “PIXEL WEAVE – HAKATA ORI –,” which incorporates visual effects such as phosphorescence into the traditional weaving techniques of Hataka-ori.
This project, which brings together traditional Japanese craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology, is attracting considerable attention for its future potential. As Yobiiro makes its first appearance overseas, it will be interesting to see how visitors respond at 3daysofdesign, one of Scandinavia’s leading design festivals.
