While presenting an expression rich in emotion, the contrast between the clay and the white glaze, together with its gently distorted form, gives the bowl a neat and handsome charm. The dignified presence created by the distinctive Ana-gama (literally, “cave kiln”) firing technique not only shows respect for the Mino tradition but also lets us catch a glimpse of the depth of the artist’s individual philosophy.
