Everyday beauty in Shirahana

This small teapot, Shirahana Teapot, by Hitoshi Morimoto presents a beautifully balanced form, which, paired with the subtle expression of white clay tinged faintly with gray, creates a quiet and dignified presence. “Shirahana” (literally, “white blossom”) is the artist’s original vision, born of firing Bizen clay in a kerosene kiln.

The soft white tone that emerges has a texture that is smooth and dry to the touch, suggesting a new direction distinct from traditional Bizen ware. With a background in sculpture, Hitoshi’s forms are refined and minimal. His careful craftsmanship is evident throughout, shaped by an ongoing exploration of material properties, firing methods, and ideal form.

While lending a quiet sense of poise to a space, this teapot creates a pleasing harmony within the moment of preparing tea. It is an exquisite piece that gently accompanies the one who lives with it, awakening an appreciation for the beauty of everyday life.
